DLC is short for “Diamond Like Carbon”. DLC coating is composed by carbon element. Its physical nature is similar with natural diamond. It’s also composed by black stone atom. Diamond like carbon coating is an amorphous coating. Because of its high hardness, high elastic modulus and low friction coefficient, it is an ideal coating for substrates which need high wear-resistance effect.
There are several techniques to manufacture the DLC coating currently: e.g. sputtering plating, plasma assisted physical vapor deposition, ion implantation etc.
Compared with the traditional coatings (e.g. titanium nitride, titanium carbide etc.) DLC has the obvious advantage in terms of friction coefficient. Friction coefficient of traditional coating: 0.5or more. Friction coefficient of DLC coating: 0.1or less.
Functional film products are widely used in CNC cutting tools, aerospace, automotive, moulds and mechanical parts, etc. Decorative film products are widely used in clocks and watches, jewellery, consumer electronics and sports equipment.
